KotakGame got a special and exclusive opportunity from Bandai Namco and Team Aces because I was one of the first media in Southeast Asia to play Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve. Playing for about 2 hours gave me goosebumps for a simple reason—because it’s that good.
For some people, the roar of fighter jet engines in the sky may just be noise. But for those who grew up dreaming of becoming pilots, or at least whose childhoods often stared at the sky while imagining themselves controlling an F-15 or F-18, that sound is addictive.
After a long wait, Bandai Namco is finally ready to take us back to the cockpit with Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve. Scheduled for release on October 2, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series It’s a love letter to the world of military aviation wrapped in next-generation visuals and a much deeper narrative than usual.
We had the opportunity to peek and experience a hands-on demo of this game. The result? This game succeeds in evoking a sense of childhood wonder, as well as providing a new perspective on the reality of war propaganda.
The Engineering Hero Behind “Wings of Theve”
So far, the Ace Combat series is famous for its fictional but very real world: Strangereal. In this eighth series, we will be taken to the year 2029, where the Federation of Central Usea (FCU) was destroyed after their capital, Theve, was invaded by the Republic of Sotoa.
This is where the main surprise of the story begins.
You were originally a navigator for Jan “Rex” Cope, the legendary pilot hailed by social media as the “Wings of Theve”—the FCU’s last symbol of hope. But the harsh reality is that Rex’s great reputation is 100% the result of a fabrication of the military propaganda machine. Rex never shot down a single plane; he is just a polished figure so that the nation’s morale does not collapse.
When their plane crashes and the real Rex dies, the military panics. Because they need a symbol, you are the one who is forced to use the call sign “Rex” and continue this public lie on social media. Unfortunately, you can’t always hide behind the screen. You have to actually fly, fight, and face enemy pilots in order to survive. In the cockpit, you will even be accompanied by the inner voice or “spirit” of the real Rex who acts as an emotional narrator throughout the game. Very unique approach!
Humane Squadron Bond

Luckily, you’re not alone in the sky. You will be accompanied by other members of Joker Flight: there is Baxer the senior mentor, Coster, and Tasha, the innocent young pilot whose worldview Baxer desperately protects from being damaged by the cruelty of the battlefield.
Interestingly, this game doesn’t immediately throw you into monotonous battles. There are warm moments where you can hang out and eat with your squadron in the hangar. Small details like this go a long way to building a strong emotional bond. The effect? Once you successfully shoot down an enemy plane, this game often shows the personal side of the target you knocked out, triggering feelings of guilt and moral dilemmas before you press the next missile button. This is a war game that really touches the human side.
Tactical Gameplay: Visuals Are Not Just Showcases

Talking about gameplay, Ace Combat 8 really takes the best essence of Ace Combat 4 and 5, then modernizes it even better with the experience of Ace Combat 7 which makes this game one of the best melting pots.
What’s most remarkable is how Bandai Namco utilizes their photorealistic graphics as a gameplay mechanic, not just an eye candy:
Cloud Shape: Manually indicates the aircraft’s altitude level.
Water Splashes on the Glass: The effect of rain in the cockpit is not only aesthetic, but a warning that your plane could freeze (icing up) if it stays in thick clouds for too long.
Condensation Trails (Contrails): When your radar is jammed by enemies, you have to track enemy jets manually via the thin smoke trails they leave in the sky.
Before taking off, you are also responsible for arranging the build of your aircraft and choosing the type of aircraft that will be carried by the squadron members. You can give dynamic commands when fighting, such as telling them to carry out aggressive attacks (forward-attack) or regroup (regroup) to protect you when you run out of missiles and are forced to duel at close range using machine guns.
Coupled with a new, more accurate hitbox system—where you can destroy specific parts of the enemy plane’s fuselage—every dogfight feels incredibly tense.
Initial Conclusion: Must Be on Your Bucket List!

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve seems to have succeeded in carrying out a tough task: maintaining the theatrical elements loved by veteran fans, being friendly to new players, but daring to go further with a political and social media narrative that is very relevant to our modern world today.
Your eardrums will be pampered by the roar of powerful jet engines, your eyes will be pampered by majestic sky visuals, and the story of this game will invite you to ponder the true meaning of truth in the midst of war.
PakarPBN
A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
